A round up of the autumn term from DT

A round up of the autumn term from DT

art and dt

This has been one of our busiest terms to date in DT and the children have embarked on some large scale projects such as tables, laser-cut veneered chess and backgammon boards with 3D printed pieces, and rocking toys for Nursery.

In light of recent press, identifying a national lack of sewing skills, (https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2018/10/30/surgery-students-cant-sew-cut-spend-much-time-screens-warns/) we have undertaken more textiles projects, encouraging pupils to use sewing machines and hand-sewing as well as making use of our new computerised embroidery machine. Pupils have made pyjamas, cushions and decorated them with a range of processes including thermo-chromic (heat disappearing) and phosphorescent (glow in the dark) paints. Children have made sweet dispensers and steady-hand games which I know will be enjoyed by all over the Christmas break!

DT has, as always, been a hive of activity well into the hours of darkness and I am thoroughly proud of all of the pupils achievements and efforts this term.
Mrs Barton.
