Taster Sessions are a wonderful way for your child to experience what their day will be like at Hazlegrove.
Pre-Prep:
Children for entry to the Nursery or Reception are invited to meet a member of the Pre-Prep staff and to join a Squirrels session or have a taster session in the Nursery before a formal offer of a place is made. Children looking at Year 1 or 2 entry will spend a day with their current year group and have a short, informal assessment which acts as a snapshot of current learning levels.
Prep School:
Taster Days are a wonderful way for your child to experience what their day will be like at Hazlegrove. Children join their current Year group and have a guide to help them throughout the day, each guide remembers well their first day and can relate and help with any concerns that arise.
During the day, a short assessment will take place in order to provide the School with a ‘snap shot’ of current academic ability. Our Head of LSU delivers the testing which begins with a few moments of chatting with the pupil which helps to relax any nerves. We then administer the literacy element of the WRAT V Reading and Spelling test. This is followed by a Maths test for which we use the most recent paper from the Maths Department, for that year group, so that we can gauge where the child sits in the Maths group.
Children who are hoping to join our boarding family are invited to include an overnight stay as part of their Taster Day. Again, this is the ideal way for children to begin to imagine themselves coming to the School.
Parents are offered a feedback session with staff to discuss how their child enjoyed their day. If a child is unable to visit Hazlegrove for a Taster Day, please discuss this with the Head of Admissions, we are able to help using Teams in order to ensure that you have good communications and access to the School.
Early application is recommended
Places are limited and you may wish to complete an application form sooner rather than later to avoid disappointment, particularly for entry into the Prep School.
Parents will also be asked to supply school reports for the previous academic year. An offer of a place will usually be made for pupils applying to join Year 1 to Year 8 following a taster day at the School or Teams appointment.
For those parents who are overseas, a Letter of Parental Consent is required as well as a completed Questionnaire for Parents Prior to the assignment of a CAS (Certificate of Acceptance for Studies), which is a requirement for the Visa application. We expect pupils to fully integrate into the academic, pastoral and extra-curriculum life of Hazlegrove.
