The Hazlegrove Art Department is an exciting and dynamic hub of activity. It encourages the children to respond creatively to that which is within them and to the physical world around them and to express themselves using a wide variety of media.

Your child’s creativity and imagination will be stimulated by visual, tactile and sensory experiences and a unique way of understanding and responding to the world. Children’s understanding of colour, form, texture, pattern and their ability to use materials and processes to communicate ideas, feeling and meanings will be developed. Art at Hazlegrove trains pupils to observe, draw, appreciate the work of others and to explore shape, form, texture, shade and light, while the ceramics department extends art into another dimension.

We will explore together the ideas and meanings in the work of artists, crafts people and designers; helping them to learn about their different roles and about the functions of art, craft and design in our own lives and in different times and cultures.

There is a particular need within some pupils to find expression for their creativity. You will always find the room brimming with pupils who are attempting to bring their vision and imagination into realisation; lunchtimes, evenings and weekends the room is open to all.

I am doing that which I can not do, in order that I may learn how to do it.
