A fascinating talk on Wednesday was held in the Hazlegrove Theatre for the boarders. We welcomed back adventurer and film maker, Leon McCarron who last spoke to us about his walking odyssey across Mongolia and China. This time, it was his adventure following the Karun river in Iran from source to mouth and the false perception we all have about some Middle Eastern countries.

Blizzards, wolves, bears, capsizing, pack rafts, bicycles, hospitality in abundance, kebabs, police and arrests were all explored and experienced by Leon and his fellow companion Tom Allen. Temperatures of -17 degrees and 35 degrees were experienced either end. Most importantly the overwhelming friendliness and generosity of the Iranian people was phenomenal.

Leon came across as a humorous, humble and intelligent man who is courageous in spirit. He gave the children a strong and powerful message about trusting humankind and pushing oneself out of the comfort zone. His knowledge on Iran was fascinating and he showed a side of the country we rarely see or hear about.

Leon is currently half-way through another adventure which can be followed on www.walkthemasar.com
