Hazlegrove is an Independent Day and Boarding Preparatory School for 350 boys and girls aged 2½ to 13. The school is fortunate to have outstanding facilities and is set within 200 acres of parkland in Somerset with direct access to the A303.
What is the essence of being Hazlegrovian?
Visitors always comment on how happy, natural and welcoming Hazlegrove pupils are.
We present a breadth of opportunity for all pupils believing that specialisation should wait until senior schools.
We prepare pupils for a wide variety of senior schools. Considerable success is achieved on the scholarship and awards front.
Pupils compete locally and nationally with commendable success in all sorts of ways. The cups and shields in the entrance hall tell the tale. Cello festivals, rounders, netball, public speaking, show jumping, hockey, cross country .........the list is a long one.
Hazlegrove pupils enjoy a childhood as well as an education.
The staff are committed to the well-being and education of children. Pastoral care is a priority. It is important to us that every pupil is happy.
Perhaps the most difficult aspect to communicate is the body of parents that choose to send their children to Hazlegrove. The parents are supportive, and are interested in their children’s education.
We haven’t done this yet, perhaps we never will, but if we gathered all our parents together in a large room and discussed things like bedtimes, TV watching, computer games, parties, videos and all those other pressures of modern life that can undermine traditional family values, I believe that we would find an enormous amount of common ground.
We believe that many of the most important aspects of education, contrary to contemporary belief, cannot be measured. We value honesty, compassion, respect for our neighbours and their property, whoever that neighbour may be. We aim to win and lose with equal grace and to be quick to say thank you and well done. |
