Prep Boarding

After much anticipation, speculation and excitement, the final in-weekend arrived and it was certainly worth the wait. The morning started with a full English breakfast in a bustling dining hall full of smiling faces.

It was particularly exciting for the Year 8 girls as after breakfast they headed straight to Clarks Village in Street to spend their last weekend together. Cheers could be heard from the Minibus as they arrived for their shopping extravaganza. The girls thoroughly enjoyed spending all their pocket money on clothes, the body shop and their favourite… the Haribo Sweet Shop.

For the rest of the boarders, it was off to letter writing before attending the memorial service for the beloved Mr X. The boarders sat beautifully on the field as they joined other staff members and Mr X’s family to reflect on the amazing impact he had at Hazlegrove and to plant an Oak Tree in his memory. It was a lovely opportunity for the boarders to celebrate and remember the many fond memories they shared with Mr X.

After the ceremony, there was a spectacular variety of activities on offer from tie-dye t-shirts, Go-Karts, movie making, Manhunt, football and farm-yard fun- just to name a few! Lunch and rest and relaxation followed next which provided some much needed quiet time.  The year 8 boys then headed to the cinema for their final weekend trip. Armed with bags of pic n mix, they all enjoyed watching Indiana Jones save the day again.

With the batteries recharged, it was time for the grand finale for the rest of the boarders… inflatable fun! The boarders rushed to the field to find it to be full of inflatables. Laughter and joy filled the air as they bounced down the mega slide, battled in gladiator duels, rode the waves on the supreme surfer and clung on for dear life on the bucking bronco. The highlight of the afternoon had to be watching the boarders and staff waddling around in giant sumo suits and struggling to get back on their feet after a sumo wrestling match.

Overall, it was a truly wonderful weekend and a brilliant chance for the Hazlegrove Boarding community to laugh, chat, play, and come together to celebrate the academic year. The day was perfectly summarised by Tessa in Year 6, “Today was fun, bouncy, energetic and a magical way to end the year.”
