Prep Boarding

The air was crisp and carrying a hint of frost. The skies were bright blue, and a hubbub of excitement oozed through the Hazlegrove grounds.

It could only mean one thing… it was the first in-weekend of the spring term! The morning started with a scrumptious full English breakfast in the dining hall which was full of gleeful children who were delighted to be spending the weekend with their friends once again.

With full bellies, the children headed to Chapel where they were treated to an interactive and inspiring service from the fantastic Mr Shaw on the journey of the three kings.  There was lots of singing, acting and games such as “guess the teacher’s present,” bringing unmistakable joy to the room. After an enjoyable service, the children used quieter moments to reflect and come together as a boarding community.

After chapel, it was straight into letter writing before embarking on their first activity - Team Challenges. The children were put into small teams and rotated around different challenges with the highest scoring team winning the infamous Fox Trophy! In competition mode, the children rotated between: Balance, Music Mania, Card creations, Basketball shoot – out, Dart attack, Bomb Disposal and received a score for their performance in each activity. The highlight of the morning was watching the children work harmoniously together, particularly the Year 8s who guided the younger children.

Once the teams had completed their final challenge, lunch, reading and relaxation time were needed to recharge the batteries.  Revitalised, the children were given some free time choosing from a variety of exciting activities. From swimming, theatre games, art and crafts, catch the flag and more, laughter and joy could be heard from all corners of the grounds.  The children then came back together in the Bearcroft for  much-loved treat of hot chocolate and popcorn before heading back to their boarding houses to get cozy for a Sunday afternoon film.

Overall, it was a fantastic weekend, and it was brilliant to have the boarding community back together to laugh, chat, play.  Anticipating the upcoming weeks, we are excited to discover the experiences the remainder of the term will bring!
