A wild Wookey weekend for the Hazlegrove boarders

Boarders had an enchanted weekend, experiencing the mystical and legendary caves at Wookey Hole.

Upon arrival, we began the tour deep under the Mendip Hills and made our way through the different chambers, listening to the spooky stories and learning interesting facts. Did you know Alexander Pope liked the giant stalactites so much that 300 years ago he got a group of army soldiers to shoot them down and take them to his home in Twickenham. We were fortunate enough to be allowed into the newly excavated chamber twenty. The children loved being able to wear hard hats and feel like real miners.

Once we were out of the caves we had to venture carefully through dinosaur valley trying to evade a giant gorilla, a Brachiosaurus, a Pterodactyl and a terrifying Tyrannosaurus Rex. If you thought that was exciting, the 4D cinema showing parts of the Lost World had all the children either in hysterics or screaming because the action was so life like. We experienced learning how to fly a plane whilst trying to escape from a menacing pterodactyl - the motion sensors in the seats made the experience very real!

After all the excitement we stopped for a spot lunch in the restaurant area. The afternoon was full of activity ranging from the very disorientating mirror maze to the amazing castle soft play area. Once we were all on the coach silence was golden - all the fun and excitement had taken its toll and most of the children fell fast asleep on the way back to school.

A great day was finished off with a delicious supper and then the ever-popular Dover Patrol.
