Boarders' Call my Bluff evening a huge success...

Boarders' Call my Bluff evening a huge success...

Mrs Cran, Mr Shaw, Mr O’Neill and Mrs Fawbert put themselves in the limelight on Wednesday for a hugely entertaining evening of “Call my Bluff”. The rules of the game - each of the panel gave their interpretation of a word and it was up to the children to decide who was telling the truth and who was bluffing (telling a lie). The children were grouped into their school houses Dover, Lyon, Norton and Tremlett and so the challenge was on.

The staff had clearly had fun thinking up their definitions to the 8 words supplied by Mr Floyd, some of them completely fooling the children into believing their bluffs such as Mr O’Neill explaining carefully how a “varlet” was a baby stoat and hearing Mrs Fawbert trying to explain that a “zarf” was something created in the Hadron Collider – well that is perhaps the last thing we would have expected her to think up so it had to be true didn’t it! Other words included cassata, finocchio, ziff, ylang-ylang, schlemiel and shadouf (which was rather easy for the Lower School who have learnt about these but we did enjoy Mrs Fawbert acting out its movement!).

Competition was close but despite a slow start, Lyon pipped Dover at the post to take house victory.

A big thank you to Mr Floyd who organised the evening and to the panel of staff who kindly gave up their time and entered into the spirit of the game so wholeheartedly.
