Year 1 Have a Lovely Time Meeting Their New Teacher
Year 1 have thoroughly enjoyed their learning this week, particularly in Maths where they have been exploring fractions by finding halves and quarters of shapes and amounts. The children have taken part in lots of practical activities, including shading, cutting and sticking, which has really helped to consolidate their understanding.
In English, we loved sharing The Snail and the Whale. The children used adjectives and similes to describe the whale, creating some wonderful ideas such as “the whale is as blue as the sky” and “as enormous as a skyscraper.”
Our Geography learning has seen us using atlases to locate different oceans around the world, while in Science we have been busy investigating plants.
We also very much enjoyed our “meet your new teacher” picnics, which were great fun as we begin to look ahead with excitement to the next school year.
What a fantastic week it has been!
