Opportunities for All Ages

From the youngest pupils to those in their final year, every child at Hazlegrove is encouraged to participate in drama activities. The department is bustling with energy, providing a supportive environment where pupils can develop their talents and confidence. Each year, pupils have the opportunity to take part in major plays or musicals, ensuring that by the time they leave Hazlegrove, stepping onto the stage feels like second nature.

Drama Monitors in Year 8

For those in Year 8, there is a special opportunity to become a Drama Monitor. This role allows pupils to take on various responsibilities, such as helping backstage, managing costumes, and assisting with make-up. Being a Drama Monitor not only enhances their understanding of the theatrical process but also fosters leadership skills and teamwork.

Encouraging Excellence

Hazlegrove is committed to nurturing the talents of pupils who show a particular aptitude for drama. These pupils are encouraged to apply for drama scholarships at their future schools, with the department providing guidance and support throughout the application process. The success of Hazlegrove's drama programme is evident in the numerous awards and scholarships received by its pupils from a wide range of prestigious senior schools.

A Thriving Community

The Drama Department at Hazlegrove is more than just a place to learn about performing arts; it is a thriving community where pupils can express themselves, build lasting friendships, and create unforgettable memories. The skills and experiences gained through drama at Hazlegrove prepare pupils not only for future academic endeavours but also for life beyond school, instilling confidence, creativity, and a love for the arts.

To nurture a child’s confidence is at the very heart of our drama programme.

Our well-appointed theatre provides ample opportunity for developing vocal skills, resilience, communication and curiosity. For those who see the world as a stage, this is a great place to start! Drama is taught as a part of the curriculum from Year 1 right the way through to Year 7, with a two-week production undertaken by the whole of Year 8 during the summer term.

Our purpose-built studio provides ample opportunity for keen dancers, with lessons taught to small groups throughout the whole school.
