Individual Assessment and Personalised Learning
Upon arrival at Hazlegrove Prep, each pupil will be individually assessed to understand their current level of English and identify any specific areas where support is needed. This assessment covers speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills, providing a comprehensive picture of the pupil's language abilities. Based on the results, a personalised programme of learning is created, tailored to the pupil's needs. This ensures that every pupil receives the right support to develop their English skills at their own pace, whether they are beginners or more advanced learners.
Small Group Lessons
Pupils are placed in groups of no more than four for grammar lessons and up to six for speaking and reading lessons. Regular reviews help track progress and adjust the programme as needed to ensure success both in the classroom and beyond.
Engaging and Supportive Lessons
During EAL lessons, pupils will learn useful vocabulary and verbs to help them understand and communicate in everyday situations and in the classroom. They will practise pronunciation through speaking and reading activities, helping them to become more confident when using English. Lessons often include fun games and interactive tasks that make learning enjoyable and help pupils feel relaxed as they improve their language skills. The goal is to build confidence while ensuring every pupil feels supported and has fun along the way.
