Safeguarding Children at Hazlegrove Prep

  • All staff and volunteers must understand that the School is a full boarding/day co-educational school and therefore, there may be increased safeguarding risks between children and adults and between pupils as the community lives and works together in close proximity.
  • The School encourages a culture of listening to children and taking account of their wishes and feelings.
  • The School encourages staff to exercise professional curiosity about pupils they are concerned about. Staff have a duty to pass on such concerns directly to a Designated Safeguarding Lead.

Training Requirement

  • Staff or volunteers at Hazlegrove Prep that work with children and young people are required to receive training in accordance with the guidance given in the School's Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy and Procedures (Policy). This policy has regard to statutory guidance - KCSiE 2025, Prevent 2023, Working Together to Safeguard Children 2023, RSHE 2023, the National Minimum Standards for Boarding Schools 2022, the Human Rights Act 1998, the Equality Act 2010, and the Public Sector Equality Duty.
  • The School's safeguarding arrangements take into account the procedures and practice of the Somerset Safeguarding Children Partnership.  This includes attendance of annual Basic Awareness in Child Protection Update Training (including contextual safeguarding information) delivered by a Designated Safeguarding Lead.
  • Staff must undertake appropriate training determined once they are appointed. This will be monitored by their line manager. A record of training will be maintained by the School.
  • The school has a range of policies and procedures for child protection and security. All staff are expected to understand and follow these policies and procedures as part of their professional responsibilities.
