Reception Learn Maths in the Woods
This week the children have turned into wombat experts! Did you know that wombats have a hard bottom to protect them from predators, or that their teeth never stop growing? The children continued to develop their communication skills by sharing the facts they had learnt with each other, and then applied these to their writing, creating non-fiction fact sheets.
In our number work we have been focussing on tens numbers, and we had a wonderful morning in the woods hunting for the numbers and then applying our understanding to solve missing-number problems. Thursday was also a problem-solving morning where, after reading One is a Snail, Ten is a Crab, the children had to work out which animals were at the beach if we could see 15 legs. It was a super way to introduce the concept that there can be many possible correct answers. Our Meet the Teacher Picnic was a huge success on Thursday, and it was wonderful to see how excited the children were to meet their new teachers. Another amazing week!
