Clever Pre-School Harvest Their Own Snacks
On a wet Monday morning, the Pre-School children popped on their waterproof suits and headed out to our vegetable and fruit patch.
They harvested an abundance of raspberries and lettuce leaves that they had planted and carefully cared for over the past few weeks. We then brought the produce indoors, where the children washed the lettuce ready to make sandwiches for snack time.
Each child buttered their own bread and chose either ham or cheese to add alongside their freshly picked lettuce. They thoroughly enjoyed making and eating their own sandwiches.
The children were then given the challenge of finding a recipe to use their raspberries. Working in small groups, they explored our collection of children's cookbooks and discussed which recipe they would like to make. It was a very close decision between a fruit pie and raspberry and chocolate chip muffins! After much deliberation, the children decided on the muffins. They helped create a shopping list and, later in the week, set about baking the most delicious-smelling muffins, which they enjoyed during snack time.
We have also been learning about bees. The children have been discussing pollination, the importance of the queen bee, and life inside a beehive. They are now busy creating their very own bees using papier-mâché.
With Sports Day just around the corner, the children have been practising hard and getting their hobby horses ready for the big race. There has been lots of grooming of the ponies in the stable and plenty of carrots being fed to keep them race-ready!
