Year 3 Visit Glastonbury Abby
Year 3 spent a glorious day at Glastonbury Abbey to support their Tudor topic this term. We were even greeted by real “Tudors” when we arrived, bringing the whole experience to life. Our first activity was a tour of the beautiful site, where we learned about its history and demise, and even discovered that the legendary King Arthur and Guinevere were supposedly buried there.
The two classes then split up, each taking part in a different activity before swapping after lunch. Goodwife Ruth was there to talk to the children in the Tudor kitchen and to take them on a tour of the kitchen garden. In the kitchen itself, they learned what life would have been like at the beginning of the Tudor period. They all had the chance to make sweet bread, grind flour, decorate icing, and even make butter the Tudor way.
The second activity involved visiting the museum, where we saw how wealthy children would have dressed, how they danced, and what games they played. We have even brought these experiences back to Hazlegrove.
The sun always makes a school trip even more enjoyable, but Glastonbury Abbey truly gave us all a Tudor experience we will never forget.
