Year 1 Become Confident Storytellers

What a fantastic week we have had in Year 1!

In English, the children thoroughly enjoyed exploring a wonderful Tinga Tinga Tale about how the elephant got his trunk. They listened beautifully, spotted key story features, and sequenced events using a story mountain. The children impressed us with their creativity when retelling the story and, even more excitingly, when innovating their own tales! We heard some brilliant ideas, including How the Ostrich Got His Long Neck and How the Scorpion Got His Sting. The children absolutely love inventing their own stories and are becoming confident storytellers—well done, Year 1!

In Maths, we have been amazing mathematicians! We have been working hard on place value up to 100, finding one more and one less, and using our understanding to explore numbers in different ways. A particular favourite activity has been using “crocodiles” to compare numbers and decide which are greater thanless than, or equal to. The children have shown great confidence and enthusiasm—keep it up!

The clear highlight of the week was our exciting trip to the safari park. What an adventure! It was wonderful to see all the animals we have been learning about in real life. We loved watching the playful meerkats and remembered the story Meerkat Mail. The children were amazed by the tall giraffes, powerful rhinos, and fascinating painted dogs. It was a memorable day full of curiosity, excitement, and learning.

We are so proud of the children’s hard work, creativity, and enthusiasm this week. Well done, Year 1—you are superstars!

We hope you all have a lovely weekend.
