Year 7 Roche Court Sculpture Park Trip

Year 7 Art Scholars have enjoyed an exciting start to the final half term of the year, visiting New Art Centre, Roche Court Sculpture Park in Wiltshire. New Art Centre specialise in 20th and 21st century art and it is set amongst the grounds of a beautiful 1804 regency house originally built for Admiral Nelson. Assisted by our excellent guides we walked around the grounds and Orangery Gallery learning about works by a broad range of artists including Peter Randall Page, Bill Woodrow, Barry Flanaghan, Peter Frie, Richard Long and Nao Matsunaga. Pupils engaged in lots of discussions about materials, process and ideas. They listened and articulated their thoughts very well and the staff at Roche Court were very impressed with their confidence and enthusiasm. The group were also given various practical drawing exercises which helped them further engage with the shapes and surfaces of the artworks. The visit was a valuable experience, and it will have certainly opened their eyes to the creative possibilities that are out there!
