Ponies Rosie and Sammy visit Reception

It has been another busy week in Reception!

Pony riding on Monday was definitely a highlight of the week. The children learned so much from Mrs Ellis and Dr Walter about pony care and how to ride, showing great enthusiasm and confidence throughout the experience.

In number work, the children have been developing their understanding of doubling and double facts using precious jewels and by creating spotty patterns on butterflies. They have enjoyed exploring numbers in a hands-on and creative way.

In literacy, our learning about butterflies has inspired some fantastic writing. The children have been using butterfly facts to write informative sentences full of interesting detail. Did you know that butterflies do not have eyelids or noses? The children were fascinated by these discoveries! To build confidence in speaking and presenting, the children then became “White Coat Experts,” sharing their facts aloud and using the iPads to record themselves.

On Tuesday, we listened to a selection of pieces from The Carnival of the Animals by Camille Saint-Saëns and used movement to express the animals we imagined in the music. The bubble machine during The Aquarium brought an extra sense of wonder and joy to the experience!

In other exciting news, we now have five chrysalides in our butterfly enclosure, and the children are eagerly waiting to see them emerge before the end of term.
