Year 1 Work Together Problem Solving in Maths

We have had a fantastic week in Year 1, filled with exciting learning across all subjects and a truly special highlight! In English, the children became authors, creating their own non-fiction books about the “Big 5” animals of Africa, lions, elephants, leopards, rhinos and buffalo. Building on last week’s learning, they carefully organised their writing using subheadings and included generalisers such as “Most lions…” and “All elephants…” to present clear facts. We were so impressed with their confidence, pride and the quality of their finished books.

In Maths, we began exploring early multiplication and division through hands-on activities. The children made arrays, practised grouping and sharing objects equally, and started to understand how these ideas link together. They showed great enthusiasm and teamwork when solving problems.

In Geography, we compared the climate of Kenya and the United Kingdom, thinking about differences in weather, temperature and how this affects the environment and animals that live there. The children asked thoughtful questions and made excellent observations.

A huge highlight of the week was our Year 1 performance, the children were absolutely amazing! They showed confidence, sang beautifully, remembered their lines and performed with big smiles throughout. We are incredibly proud of each and every one of them. Well done, Year 1, for such a wonderful week full of learning, creativity and achievement!
