Reception Become Vets for the Day
This week has been full of excitement as our theme, ‘All Creatures Great and Small’, really came to life. We were delighted to welcome Hazlegrove parent and local vet, Rhian Rochford, who introduced the children to her wonderful animals, including Ron Weasley the dachshund and Debbie the bantam chicken. The children thoroughly enjoyed learning how to carry out a simple health check and developed their understanding of how to care for animals and meet their needs. They then practised their bandaging skills on their own animals, looked at butterfly wings under the microscope and used the stethoscope to listen to Ron Weasley's heart.
In the classroom, we have been fascinated by our caterpillars, which have now all formed their chrysalides. We are eagerly waiting for the magical moment when they emerge as butterflies! This has linked beautifully to our story ‘The Very Impatient Caterpillar’, helping us to explore the importance of patience and understanding that sometimes the best things take time.
Our gardening projects are also continuing to flourish. The bean plants are thriving and now covered in flowers, and we have spotted the first green shoots emerging from our potato plants. The recent wet weather has certainly helped everything to grow so well, and the children are enjoying observing these exciting changes.
