Nursery Make Their Own Hungry Caterpillar Café
We have had a wonderful week exploring the story The Very Hungry Caterpillar! The children have loved joining in with the colourful story and learning all about caterpillars, butterflies, healthy foods, and things that grow through playful activities.
Our kitchen role play area was transformed into a “Hungry Caterpillar Café,” where the children enjoyed pretending to cook and serve all the foods from the story. They practiced turn-taking, sharing, counting foods, and using their imagination as they prepared delicious pretend meals for their friends.
The children explored colour and symmetry by creating beautiful butterfly paintings. They used a variety of paints and tools to make bright patterns and enjoyed watching their butterflies “come to life.” We talked about how caterpillars change into butterflies.
This week, we also focused on shape recognition. The children used circles, squares, and rectangles to create their very own caterpillars. They enjoyed naming shapes and arranging them into colourful patterns.
Mrs Evans is gradually preparing the children for sports day activities: they are mastering running around a track, weaving in and out and most importantly having a rest on the rest bench. The children are loving singing about their biceps and triceps!
