Year 1 have absolutely loved sharing the story Meerkat Mail this week. Inspired by Sunny’s adventures around the world, the children have been writing their own postcards, carefully thinking about what makes a good postcard and how to ask thoughtful questions. They came up with some fantastic ideas about the different places Sunny visited at Hazlegrove and showed great enthusiasm when imagining what it might be like to travel so far from home. We have also been looking at stunning photographs of the African savannah and using these to help us learn about continents, linking our reading to our understanding of the wider world. In Maths, the children have been learning about capacity and volume, comparing and measuring using water and sand. This hands‑on learning was great fun and, unsurprisingly, a little bit messy at times!
