Reception Welcome Classroom Caterpillars

There has been huge excitement in the Reception classrooms this week as we welcomed ten very tiny (but very hungry) caterpillars. We cannot wait to see them grow, form chrysalis' and metamorphosise! We are hoping our wild flowers will grow in time to be a beautiful safe haven for them in the Reception garden.

The garden has also become home to our enormous bean plants; that had definitely outgrown the classroom. The children worked hard on Wednesday to plant them and delighted at seeing the huge bundles of roots hiding in the flowerpots. We are hopeful that the rather windy conditions do not prove too much for the thin stalks...

In our number work this week we have been partitioning numbers beyond 10 into tens and ones and developing our understanding of what each digit stands for in larger numbers - 'Teens number painting stories' were lots of fun, with 12 wheels on a gigantic bus and 17 sweets as a treat after school! It has been a very busy but amazing week, and we cannot wait to see what next week will bring.
