Year 1 Write Letters to The Earth

Year 1 have had a wonderful start back to school and enjoyed a very special first day as it was Earth Day. We celebrated by reading the story Dear Earth, which inspired lots of thoughtful discussions about how we can look after our planet. The children then wrote their own letters to the Earth, sharing promises and ideas about how to help keep it safe and healthy.

We are very excited to begin our new topic, Amazing Africa. As part of this, the children enjoyed reading Bear’s Magic Pencil, which helped us explore themes of caring for the Earth and protecting endangered animals. This linked beautifully with our Earth Day learning and encouraged the children to think about how people can make positive changes to help animals around the world.

In Maths, we have been learning all about measurement, focusing on using scales to understand weight. The children enjoyed comparing objects, predicting which might be heavier or lighter, and using mathematical language to explain their thinking.

It has been a fantastic start to the term, and we are really proud of how settled and enthusiastic Year 1 have been. We are very much looking forward to exploring more of our Amazing Africa topic in the coming weeks.
