Reception Measure Their Bean Plants

Our spring term has started off with sunshine and smiles as the Reception children bounced into their classes on a beautiful Wednesday morning . Earth Day has inspired our learning this week with the children celebrating our wonderful world, thinking about how we can look after our planet and the amazing animals and plants around us. We have travelled to the four corners of the earth through the story 'Dear Earth' and the children have thought about the questions they might ask the world. Some of our favourites were , 'Do you ever feel cold?', 'Have you got a friend?', 'Can you hear anything?' We then wondered what the Earth might reply?

Our ENORMOUS bean plants have also provided much amusement and maths opportunities as they have surpassed their clouds and castles and are headed to the ceiling! Armed with tape measures, we tackled the stalks and leaves and were thrilled to measure the tallest at 1m 48 (and still going!)  We are looking forward to planting them outside next week where they will have more space to grow amongst our bumble bee friendly wild flowers.
