Year 6 Production of Oliver Jr

The recent production of Oliver Jr has been an outstanding success for year 6.  It is one of my favourite musicals, and it felt particularly special to stage this production as a celebration of Mrs Sclater and her final Year 6 show at Hazlegrove. What a fitting and joyful way to mark such an important occasion.

The Year 6 pupils rose superbly to the challenge. From the very beginning of rehearsals through to the final performances, they showed impressive focus, commitment, and determination. This musical is not easy, many of the songs are demanding, with tricky rhythms and challenging notes. However, the pupils approached this with enthusiasm and resilience, working incredibly hard to achieve such polished and confident performances.

Putting on a large-scale production like this is no small task, yet it is something that Hazlegrove continues to do exceptionally well. This success is a reflection not only of the pupils’ efforts, but also of the unwavering support from staff and parents, which never goes unnoticed and is hugely appreciated.

The performances themselves were truly remarkable. On both Thursday evening and Friday afternoon, the pupils performed with confidence, energy, and professionalism. It was particularly impressive to see them performing on the floor, so close to the audience, which requires a great deal of courage and presence. They embraced this fully, acting and singing with heart and conviction, and captivating everyone watching.

I could not be prouder of every single pupil involved. Their teamwork, bravery, and enthusiasm made this production something very special indeed, and it is one that will be remembered for a long time to come.
