Year 1 have an Imaginative Week
We have had a wonderfully busy and creative week in Year 1, and the children have impressed us at every turn!
This week in English, the children stepped into the shoes of the Big Bad Wolf and wrote some very impressive sorry letters to the three little pigs. They showed such thoughtful empathy as they considered how the Wolf might make things right. Some even suggested making muddy puddles for the pigs to roll in, which certainly brightened our day! The children also enjoyed innovating the classic story, creating brilliant new versions such as The Three Little Sheep and the Big Bad Dog and The Three Little Crocodiles and the Big Bad Lizard. Their imagination has been wonderful to watch.
In Maths, we have been partitioning numbers up to 50, strengthening our understanding of tens and ones. The children have worked hard using practical equipment and drawings to break numbers apart and put them back together. We’ve also been practising estimating and finding numbers on a number line, helping to build a strong sense of number and position.
A particular highlight has been our lino print houses. The children carefully sketched their house designs onto the lino before rolling ink and printing their finished pieces. The results were amazing, and the children thoroughly enjoyed the whole process, from drawing to printing. We hope you enjoy hearing about all the wonderful learning happening in Year 1, and we look forward to another week filled with creativity, curiosity, and fun!
