Reception Enjoy Trip to Somerset Rural Life Museum
Spring is in the air in Reception this week as we have observed our beanstalks beginning to grow! We are keeping a close eye on them and checking to see if any giants are descending!
On Tuesday, we had an amazing trip to the Somerset Rural Life Museum. The children made their own butter and learned how to separate the corn from the husks with flails. We then ground the corn into flour and brought it back to school. A walk around the museum introduced the children to life in the past, both in homes and on the farm. They were not so keen on the idea of only having an outside toilet but were fascinated by the mangles and tubs for washing clothes and the apple press.
Following our adventure, the children have been writing fantastic recounts of our trip, using time openers to order events and applying their phonics to spell new words. It has been a wonderful week, full of awe and wonder as we have travelled into the past.
