Reception Practice Their Drumming Skills

This week, in Reception,  we explored new twists on the story ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’. The children thought deeply about what the Giant’s most prized possession might be, coming up with wonderful and inventive ideas including glittering crowns and magical cats. We also held a lively class debate about who the true villain of the story really is, the thief, Jack, or the grumpy and misunderstood Giant. The children shared fantastic reasoning and listened beautifully to one another’s ideas.

In Maths, we put our money skills into action with a visit to the 'Hazlegrove Snack Shop'. The children practised recognising and using a variety of coins, carefully choosing their snacks and working out what coins they would need to use to pay. It was a lovely, practical way to build confidence with early money handling and addition. We also began creating our very own loveliness of clay ladybirds as part of our ‘What the Ladybird Heard’ topic. The children loved shaping the clay and thinking about how to form wings, spots, and antennae. We cannot wait to paint them once they are dry!
