Year 1 Enjoy Carousel of Roald Dahl Activities

What a wonderfully busy and imaginative week we have had in Year 1! The children have amazed us with their creativity, problem‑solving skills, and enthusiasm for learning across all areas of the curriculum. In English, they loved innovating the much‑loved story The Pesky Rat, reimagining it with brand‑new settings such as muck heaps, old boots, and flights to Africa. Their inventive twists, expressive vocabulary, and confident storytelling have been a joy to watch.

In Maths, the children have been developing their problem‑solving skills by spotting patterns, using number facts, and explaining their thinking clearly. Their determination and willingness to try different strategies have been fantastic, and we are so proud of the confidence they are building.

Our art sessions have linked beautifully with our Houses and Homes topic. The children explored different styles of homes and experimented with shapes, lines, and textures to create their own interpretations.

The highlight of the week, however, was World Book Day. Year 1 arrived full of excitement, wearing a wonderful array of colourful costumes inspired by their favourite stories. The children took part in a carousel of Roald Dahl–themed activities, exploring some of his most iconic characters through cooking, art, and creative tasks. From mixing marvellously magical potions to dreaming up delicious chocolate inventions, the day was filled with laughter, imagination, and so much joy.

It has been a truly brilliant week, and we are incredibly proud of how engaged and enthusiastic the children have been in all their learning. We cannot wait to see what next week brings!
