Highlight of the Week for Reception was World Book Day
What an amazing and magical week it has been in Reception! The children have been bursting with enthusiasm as we explored stories, creativity, and imagination across both our classrooms.
We began the week diving into the much‑loved tale Jack and the Beanstalk. The children were captivated by Jack’s daring adventure and were inspired to plant their very own beans. With great care (and a sprinkle of magic!), they planted them in the hope that their beanstalks might one day reach mysterious lands high above the clouds.
In Art, we linked our learning to What the Ladybird Heard, crafting charming clay ladybirds, each one unique and full of character. We also completed our beautiful horse‑themed Chinese lanterns, which now glow proudly as a celebration of our creativity and understanding of this special festival.
But without doubt, the highlight of the week was World Book Day on Thursday. The children arrived in an array of incredible costumes, an explosion of colour, characters, and excitement that filled our corridors with joy. The morning was packed with Roald Dahl–themed adventures carefully designed by our teachers.
- In Reception, the children stepped into the world of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by creating their very own Hazlegrove “Fizzy Lifting Drinks” and delightfully enormous lollipops.
- Year 1 transformed into The BFG’s dream‑filled workshop, where the Reception children created their own dream‑catchers and even made some wonderfully green Frobscottle!
- Year 2, inspired by George’s Marvellous Medicine, the Reception children had a fantastic time mixing their own magical potions and writing imaginative ingredient lists filled with interesting ingredients.
It has been a week overflowing with imagination, wonder, and storytelling. We are so proud of how engaged, excited, and inspired the children have been. What a magical week indeed!
