Speech and Drama Showcase 2026

73 children took part in this year's showcase on 3rd February culminating in short mime, acting and devised scenes divided into middle and upper school.

It allowed children to showcase their recent LAMDA exams, scholarship pieces and practise skills learnt in their lessons to a wider audience.

The  middle school showcase displayed some wonderful scenes and children were so eager to perform, delivering their lines with great confidence.  For some, it was their debut performance.

Esme A opened the upper school showcase with an impressive performance of 'The Grand High Witch' by Roald Dahl that has just won her a drama scholarship to St Mary's Calne.  Other great writers featured included William Golding (Lord of the Flies), Carlo Collodi (Pinocchio) Louisa May Alcott (Little Women), Lillian Hellman (The Children's Hour), Ted Hughes (Sean, The Fool, The Devil And The Cats).

Children also showcased a variety of devised pieces ranging from escaping the Titanic to many other imaginary situations including in a zoo and hair dresser.

It was a colourful evening of drama enjoyed by the audience. Children were confident on stage and thrived in front of a larger audience.

I would like to thank all the Hazlegrove staff who made this event possible and to all parents for helping the performers with their lines, costumes and for being such a supportive audience during the performances.  Finally a big ‘well done’ to all performers – each of whom love performing on stage and all of whom are a joy to teach!
