Military Diving and Threat Exploration for In Weekend

The Diving and Threat Exploration Group (DTXG), led by Commander Rory Armstrong, visited Hazlegrove this weekend. It was a wonderfully engaging and informative demonstration for pupils, showcasing how bomb disposal operations are carried out in real-life scenarios.

The session provided a hands-on insight into specialist equipment used by Explosive Ordnance Disposal teams, including an underwater Remotely Operated Vehicle (VideoRay Defender), the Dragon Runner robot, and an IED disposal response vehicle equipped with a ‘heavy’ IED robot. Children were given the opportunity to observe the robots in action and, where appropriate, interact with the equipment under close supervision.

The visit was fascinating, capturing pupils’ interest while reinforcing the importance of safety, teamwork, and advanced technology in modern threat response operations.

A unique and exciting activity for our Boarding In Weekend.
