Boarders Inter House Duck Race
The day started with excitement as Mr Jenkins brought everyone together in the theatre to explain the plan and rules for the Inter House Duck Race.
The children split into their house groups and got stuck into preparations. Each house made colourful banners, fun accessories, and catchy songs or raps to show off their team spirit. Later, everyone returned to the theatre to perform their creations in front of the gap year assistants, who were ready to be impressed. The performances were full of energy and creativity. Dover House got off to a strong start, winning the banner competition and coming second in the song performance. Lyon House was awarded the “Duck of Hope” for showing brilliant teamwork throughout the morning.
Afterwards, everyone hopped on minibuses to Langport. They enjoyed a picnic before walking to the bridge for the big duck launch. With plenty of excitement, the duck guardians released the ducks into the river, but the wind and current had other ideas! The ducks barely moved, so Dan jumped on his paddleboard to collect them and restart the race further upstream.
The second launch was much better. Dan helped guide the ducks along the river and kept them out of the reeds. All the ducks made it to the finish line, cheered on by enthusiastic supporters along the riverbank.
When the scores were added up from the morning activities and the race, Tremlett and Dover were tied. The final result came down to race positions, and with Tremlett’s ducks finishing first and second, they were crowned the winners.
