Year 4 Outdoor Ed travelled back to the Stone Age as part of our term’s book, ‘Stig of the Dump’. We’ve been reading the book during our outdoor sessions and got hands-on making flints.

We began with a mindfulness activity exploring the sense of touch, watched videos on how to knap flint, tested the sharp edges on a large piece of partially knapped flint, and examined real Stone Age blades and beautifully crafted arrowheads. We then settled in the woods for our own flint-making sessions.

What carefully made flints Year 4 created! Luckily for us, their deadliness was limited by the fact they were made from soap!
