Fantastic Teachers Concert
Last Thursday’s concert was the ticket of the term, with a selection of our sensational instrumental music staff performing to a packed audience. Giving Glastonbury a serious run for its money, performances ranged from an exquisite flute, oboe and piano trio (Mrs Cleverley, Mrs Pugh and Mrs Moore) to a pair of impressive classical sax and jazz clarinet pieces by Mrs White.
In a moment of peace and reflection, Mr Rippingale blew us all away with some incredibly moving classical guitar, contrasting wonderfully with an energetic and hilarious piano duet by Mrs Moore and her twin sister, Miss Merrifield, who performed a take on the famous Entertainer by Scott Joplin. Mrs Rigby then stopped all in their tracks with an incredible rendition of My House from Matilda. What a superb demonstration of performance technique and communication with the audience for all our young singers!
In true Hazlegrove style, classical music was not the only genre on offer, and all were bowled over by our in-house band (Mr Rogers, Mr Birch and Mrs Toornent) who performed a fabulous medley of 90s hits. This was followed swiftly by some serious showmanship on the drums by Mr Varnfield, who performed a mix of his most-requested hits from band tours gone by.
Finishing the evening was the memorable Mr Marquiss Megamix, compiled by the man himself and based on suggestions by Hazlegrove children over the course of several weeks.
As always, I am humbled by the talent of our instrument team here at Hazlegrove. Your children really are enormously lucky to have these professional musicians imparting their extensive knowledge and expertise, with passion, dedication and a deep-rooted love of music at the very heart of all they do. I know that we are all immensely grateful for their efforts. #HazlegrovePrep #HazlegroveMusic
