Festival Concert 2025
This term has been another exciting one in the music department, and hot on the heals of our hugely successful Year 6 production of The Lion King Jnr was Thursday’s annual Festival Concert.
In a Hazlegrove first, some of our DJ pupils performed an opening set to parents, who were invited to enjoy a drink in the disco-lit theatre. Thank you to the wonderful Mr Powell, who supported these young musicians so superbly.
This set the scene perfectly for an evening of ensembles and choirs, displaying Hazlegrove Music at its finest. Opening the concert programme, our growing Orchestra and accomplished Guitar Ensemble were swiftly followed by a moving rendition of Rutter’s The Music’s Always There with You, sung by our invitational Chapel Choir. Meanwhile, the Year 7 Chamber Group and Wind Band showed our audience that beautifully played classical music can sit very easily alongside an energetic Samba Band, as well as toe-tapping tunes from our superb Flute Group and Brass Ensemble. Contributing to the choral side of our concert, the senior Hazlegrove Voices choir performed a wonderfully uplifting rendition of Lexi Walker’s Tiny Voice, including some accomplished solos from children across the Upper School. As the evening came to a climax, and our audience were left in awe of our exciting up-and-coming girl band, Golden Eagles, our entire Year 5 took to the stage to sing I’m a Star. The title certainly embodied each and every one - we were so proud of them all!
If you were unable to attend our concert, I encourage you to watch it on the Parent Portal. Although only a brief snapshot of the department, it is wonderful to see what goes on in and around the school. We hope that you feel inspired by the hard work and dedication of these super children and feel moved to come along to another of our Hazlegrove Music events before the end of the year. From our second joint concert with King’s Bruton to our Year 8 Showcase and of course, the annual surprise at Speech Day, there is much more still to look forward to!
