The year 8s were thrilled to put on their play “ A Play in the Life” on Thursday and Friday. Two packed houses showed their appreciation of the children’s efforts with cheers and laughter.

The play told the tale of Rose: born on New Year’s Eve 1900. There was no stopping her as she first joined the suffragette  campaign for votes for women, then became a pioneering woman in the Cambridge University Mathematics Department, then on to Bletchley Park as a codebreaker,  finally climbing through the ranks of the BBC with her sister Eve. The last scene saw her growing old (disgracefully) holidaying with the rich and famous and attending the great musicals of the last decades of the century. A tale acknowledging the unsung roles played by women in a different age, and hopefully a spur to the children to research their own family histories and maybe find a secret or two themselves. The children told the tale with grace, poise and most importantly much enjoyment.  It was a pleasure to work with such a talented and enthusiastic year group, who dedicated the show to the children over the Covid years who didn’t quite manage to have their play in the traditional fashion.
