A fabulous Year 8 Soloists' Concert...

Music

The Year 8 Soloists’ Concert is always a very special event at Hazlegrove as it is when the Year 8 pupils have their final chance to show us just what fantastic levels they have achieved with their music before they leave. Additionally, the performers dress up in their best finery which clearly adds to the sense of occasion.

Needless to say, the theatre was packed. Not just family, friends and Hazlegrove staff had come to enjoy the evening but also some senior school Directors of Music - a daunting audience for anyone! However, these Year 8 children relished the opportunity there were superb solo performances all round. The pieces included such delights as Bohm's Spanish Dance on the violin, Hubeau's Trumpet Sonata (2nd movement), Hummel's Trumpet Concerto (1st movement), Debussy's Doctor Gradus ad Parnassum on the piano and Allegro Appassionata by Saint-Saens on the cello.

The soloists were supported by wonderful performances from The Swing Band, a piano trio, the Girls' and Boys' Vocal Groups and an amusing rendition of Walton’s Cha Cha by the Trumpet Quartet who managed to take turns in playing 1st trumpet!

Well done everyone and we wish all the Year 8s continued success and enjoyment with their music as they move on to their senior schools next term!
