Reception Work on the story of 'Nine Naughty Kittens' in Maths

Children love stories. Stories are magical, they can create other worlds, emotions, ideas and make the everyday seem incredible. They can teach us empathy and take us on terrific journeys. The teachers and children in Reception have enjoyed some incredible stories this week and have used these tales to inspire our learning. ‘What the Ladybird Heard?’ has led to the children creating and labelling their own maps of the farmyard and on Wednesday they programmed the Beebots to journey around the map, thinking about positional language and developing early coding skills. 'Nine naughty kittens' has encouraged the children to think about the differences between 9 and 10, partitioning

and grouping and starting to show their understanding through number sentences and stories.  The milder weather has meant that we have made the most of being outside having lots of fun in forest school and our outside area. A brilliant first week and a super sunny start to our 'Spring Watch' topic.
