Pre-School Celebrate Chinese New Year
This week Pre-School have been celebrating Chinese New Year. We have been learning all about their traditions, dragon dances, fireworks, the different types of food, traditional dress and all about the year of the horse. The children have also been enjoying playing in their Chinese restaurant role play area and making Chinese lanterns.
During our cookery lesson Pre-School set about making their very own Chinese noodle takeaway complete with chop sticks. The children's challenge was to have a go at eating their noodles using their chop sticks. We have received some lovely photos of the children at home as evidence of them not only enjoying their noodle stir fry, but expertly having a go with their chop sticks.
To mark the year of the horse the children have been designing and creating a hobby horse for them to ride, which will no doubt be seen cantering around the school grounds when finished!
We have now finished reading the wonderful story of the 'Giraffe Pelly and Me'. The children have really enjoyed listening to the story using their imaginations to picture them washing all the Duke of Hampshire's 100's of windows, catching the cat burglar and pretending to sample all the delightful sweets sold in Billy's sweet shop.
To decide which book to read next, the children took a vote. Having listened to a short description of the 'Enormous Crocodile or 'Flat Stanley' the children took it in turns to come and place a counter next to the book that they wanted to listen to. It was a very close call, with The Enormous Crocodile winning the vote.
We are so proud of the children saying goodbye to their parents and carers in the hall and coming into the Pre-school classroom independently, hanging up their bags, coats and putting away their book bags and water bottles. Well done, Pre-School!
