Nursery Children Give Class Tortoises a Warm Bath
A Big Wake-Up for Tortellini & Hobo!
There was great excitement as the children carefully lifted the lid off the shoebox and sang Jingle Bells to wake Tortellini and Hobo from their winter hibernation! The children were thrilled to see them stretching and beginning to roam around the classroom again.
This week the tortoises enjoyed their very first warm bath of the year. The children helped to gently clean their shells and sprinkle warm water over them. It has been a wonderful opportunity to practise taking turns, using gentle hands, and learning how to care for living things.
We have also been learning about how Tortellini and Hobo are the same and how they are different, especially noticing that one of our tortoises has only three legs. The children have shown such kindness and curiosity while talking about this.
People Who Help Us
Alongside caring for our tortoises, we have been learning about People Who Help Us , both at Hazlegrove and in the wider world.
The highlight of the week was an incredibly exciting visit from an ambulance! The children were fascinated to look inside and learn about how paramedics help people.
Our role-play area has been transformed into a doctor’s surgery. Mrs Field has been a very patient “patient,” with her head heavily bandaged and tucked up in bed with a teddy in the playroom! The children have loved caring for her, checking her over, and making sure she is comfortable.
To show our appreciation, the children made beautiful cards for the people who help keep us safe and happy at nursery, our maintenance team, chefs, Mrs Bowes, and our housekeeping team. The cards were hand-delivered alongside some cheerful daffodils as a special thank you.
It has been a week full of care, kindness, and community spirit.
