Year 2 Make Excellent Reporters
This week, we took part in exciting projects that used Design & Technology and historical storytelling. In DT, the children have been learning practical sewing and fabric‑joining techniques, including running stitch, overstitch and simple seam construction. After practising on materials, they will be applying their n skills to create fabric waistcoats.
To bring their learning to life, pupils then stepped back in time and became 1666 news reporters, covering the dramatic events of the Great Fire of London. The young journalists recorded eyewitness reports, wrote urgent news bulletins, and reported live “from the scene” at Pudding Lane.
They investigated how the fire spread, why the wooden houses burned so quickly, and how Londoners responded to the unfolding disaster. Using their knowledge of historical evidence, the children produced wonderfully imaginative news reports, some dramatic, some humorous, but all rooted in the facts of this important moment in history.
We are incredibly proud of their enthusiasm, teamwork, and creativity. Well done, reporters of 1666!
