Lower School Maths Morning 2026
On an overcast Monday morning, our intrepid Year 3s and 4s embarked on an epic mathematical voyage during the Lower School Maths Activity Morning. They were divided into ten mixed‑ability teams (all named after famous women who have contributed to the world of maths), and they spent the entire morning racing between five very different maths challenges.
At the first port of call, they put their guessing skills to the test in Estimation Agony. At the second harbour, they faced a series of tricky water‑capacity conundrums in Wacky Waters. Then they set sail on a gruelling maths treasure hunt, sprinting around the whole school searching for – and solving – maths puzzles. Next, their measuring skills were examined as they attempted to measure the height of a flight of stairs using Lego blocks, and worked out how many 2p coins it would take to cover an entire courtyard. Finally, they pitted their wits against each other in a taxing crossnumber competition.
All of the teams were absolutely fantastic, and every child put in a huge amount of effort at each maths station. It was lovely to see them working together and supporting one another as they learnt new skills and applied their maths knowledge to a series of fun, real‑world challenges.
In the end, it was Team Rachel Riley and Team Mayim Bialik who came joint first with a score of 48/50 each – WOW!
