Year 1 Receive Postcard From Mr Benbow on the Moon
It has been a week full of learning, laughter and creativity in Year 1. The children loved exploring our focus text Toys in Space, diving into the imaginative story and sharing their favourite parts. We wrote thoughtful questions and were thrilled to receive a postcard from Mr Benbow, who is on the moon! Inspired by his message, the children decided to write back, using some out‑of‑this‑world adjectives to make their postcards sparkle.
In Maths, we worked hard to understand tens and ones in teen numbers, using lots of practical apparatus to consolidate knowledge and build confidence. Creativity soared in Art as we made stunning moon pictures, experimenting with gloopy paints and printing techniques to create craters that looked just like the lunar surface.
Science brought plenty of excitement as we watched a poor “eggstronaut” crash to Earth and smash to bits! Faced with the big question, What shall we do?, the children rose to the challenge and designed landing pads, applying their growing knowledge of materials to keep future eggstronauts safe.
What an action‑packed and egg‑citing week we’ve had in Year 1! We can’t wait to see what adventures next week brings.
