Upper School Social Science Lessons Look at Global Economics
In social science this half term, we are starting to look at economics as a major driver of human behaviour and current affairs. We began with an introduction to what economics means and the importance of trade in its various forms. We had great fun discussing Monopoly strategies to make the topic more accessible and to link it to real‑world scenarios: red and yellow properties for maximum territorial gain; the Electric Company and Water Works representing natural resources; and Mayfair and Pall Mall showing high risk, high reward! We explored how economics can be a useful lens through which to unpick much of what is happening around the world, not least in Venezuela. Next week, our Chilli Challenge is to consider how relevant economics is to the unfolding events in Venezuela.
