Year 1 Launch into an Exciting New Space Topic

What an out-of-this-world first week back in Year 1! The children have launched into their exciting new Space topic, and the classroom has been buzzing like a rocket on the launchpad.

We began our cosmic journey by reading the book Here Come the Aliens, sparking imaginations and inspiring the children to use adjectives to describe their very own alien creations. From ‘slimy’ to ‘sparkly’, their vocabulary has truly taken off! Building on this, we explored space poetry, developing an understanding of nouns and sprinkling in even more adjectives to make their verses shine like stars.

In Mathematics, we have been orbiting around numbers within 20, building a strong gravitational pull towards the number 10. This solid foundation is helping us understand teen numbers and how they relate to 10, an essential step for future number work.

Our artistic astronauts designed their very own astronaut suits in Art, combining creativity with a dash of galactic flair. Meanwhile, in Personal and Social Education, we began thinking about goal setting, learning how to identify the steps we need to take to achieve our ambitions. After all, even astronauts need a flight plan before heading to the moon!

It has been a stellar start to the term, and we cannot wait to see where this space adventure takes us next. Watch this space for more updates as Year 1 continues to reach for the stars!
