Nursery Explore 'Poppy Day'

I am so proud of the Nursery children for learning so much about Remembrance this week. Remembrance is a sensitive and grown-up theme for very young children to understand, but I firmly believe that big themes can be broken down into something they can grasp and learn from.

We have discovered that on ‘Poppy Day’, we think about the people who made our homes, schools and shops safe. This led to the children talking about who keeps them safe, such as mummies, daddies, siblings and teachers.

The children made their own poppies and watched the King on the screen standing very still and quietly, wearing his poppy. They practised being very quiet and not talking “like the King did”, and played games with timers. Those who were here for our school service on Tuesday showed respect and patience by standing quietly. I am extremely proud of them all.
