Year 7 Seed Pod Sculptures
Year 7 have been having great fun modelling their very own seed pod sculptures!
The project begins with drawing and photography to explore the textures and shapes of the natural world. Pupils then create a design drawing to visualise their intentions, which is developed using a wax resist technique popularised by the renowned sculptor Henry Moore. The combination of wax crayon, watercolour, and Indian ink really helps bring their ideas to life.
For the 3D element, pupils roll out their own slab of earthenware clay and drape it over a plaster mould shaped like a seed pod, forming the base of their sculpture. They then begin crafting their designs using a variety of tools and hand modelling techniques.
Even at this early stage, the sculptures are looking impressive, and we’re looking forward to glazing them with colour after half term!
